Book Launch of Biting Anorexia by Lucy Howard-Taylor
‘My name is Lucy. I am in recovery from anorexia nervosa and major depression, each of which almost killed me.’
So begins this extraordinary depiction by a 19-year-old woman of her descent into the tortured existence of anorexia and her arduous and remarkable recovery from it.
As Lucy states in this powerful depiction of the reality of the condition, ‘Forget about misguided notions of vanity and thin models, this is what anorexia is really about.’
Beautifully and evocatively written, with devastating insights into the condition and recovery process, Biting Anorexia is ultimately inspiring.
Come along and meet the author, all welcome!

PLEASE GIVE THIS MESSAGE TO LUCY..
Dear Lucy..I watched you this morn.. 18th july sunrise show.. You were brilliant.. Reminded me of my super thin 28yr old daughter who is proud and self critical as you stated you were/are.. she works for an eating disorder clinic in melb.. she worries me.. she is way too thin..weighing just 47 kgs and is 170cm.. she continues to say.. mum I am fine.. she like yourself is gorgeous.. stunning. then I have my 15 yr old.. 58 kg 180cm daughter who is forever asking.. how do I lose weight..
I will be buying two copies of your book .. one for each of my daughters.. cannot get to meet you as live south coast.. but congratulations.. you are simply beautiful..
I am glad, so very glad that you could see with your own eyes that what you were doing was not appropriate.. it is hard.. I know..
..
my best wishes to you.. give your mum a hug for me.. she would have been dying inside.. but you know that now.. love Jennifer Knight..
I am a dear friend of Lucy’s and a recovered anorectic myself. (In fact, I am mentioned in the book.) I attended the launch last night and wanted to cry throughout Lucy’s entire speech. Words cannot express how proud I am of her achievement. I know how difficult it must have been to continually relive such a horrific experience.
I’d also like to say a big thanks to Amanda Jordan for her words on Lucy’s book and on the topic of anorexia.
Jennifer - I’ll gladly pass on your message to Lucy.
Hi there. I attended the book launch on Wednesday night also. As a former sufferer of the illness and knowing how hard and isolating it can be, I really felt Lucy’s account will send a message about how deep seated the illness can be. The physical aspects are just one part, the emotional and mental are much more gruelling. The impact on family/friends is unbearable.
A great launch, complemented by Amanda Jordan’s touching and informative talk on the realities of eating disorders.
Well done Lucy.
