Mentorship
Paula Kotowicz is working in conjunction with the Eating Disorders Unit at Northside Clinic to assess what people with eating disorders feel is needed to help them recover - both while in hospital and when they return home. Paula holds regular focus groups with the patients on the unit and we have been working to implement some of these ideas here at the Foundation.
The staff and volunteers at EDF now provide the following services as part of the mentorship program:
- Regular email and/or phone support for patients when they leave hospital to support them during the difficult transition back to ‘real life’
- Assisting people find outpatient practitioners in their area to facilitate ongoing treatment
- Facilitating access to local recovery groups if appropriate for the patient and/or their family
- Providing support for their families if this is helpful and relevant - this includes information packs and/or phone and email support
This project is being piloted with Northside Clinic but we hope to be able to offer this service to patients in other interested hospitals.
For more information about this service, please contact us in the office on 02 9412 4499 or via email.
